The next geographical region you will learn about is the Canadian Shield. This lesson should be finished in two computer classes. The Canadian Shield is more than 2 billion years old. It consists of great volcanic mountains that were leveled by millions of years of erosion. It is the geographic foundation of Canada covering more than half of its surface area.
1. Find a map of this region. Which provinces are in this region? (IF you don't know what your map is telling you, DO NOT WRITE I DONT KNOW! ASK me or a friend!)

Regional Geography

Questions
1. Are there geographical regions in China or Korea? Explain in 3-5 sentences.
There are eight major geographical regions.Tibetan Plateaus,Southwest,Maritime South,Lower Yangzi/South Central China,Northwest,Loess Plateau,North China Plain and the Northeast. They all have their typical things.

2. Post 3 pictures of China's or Korea's regional geography. It can be photographs. Explain each picture in 5-8 sentences.

Tibetan Plateaus

Tibetan Plateaus is a famous region in the world. It is 3500 by 1500 kilometers , averaging more than 5000 meters in elevation. It is the largest and highest region in the world. The Himalaya-Karakoram is here. This region contains not just Mount Everest, 13 other peaks are higher than 8000 meters, hundreds of 7000-meter peaks each higher than anywhere else on Earth. This is really a great area.

The Yangtze river

The Yangtze river is 6,300 km long, it is the largest river in China, and the third largest in the world, next only to the Nile in Africa and the Amazon in South America. This region is much wetter than other places in China. It is called "golden waterway". From this name, I can know how Chinese like this river. the Yangtze is a transportation that links west and east. The middle and lower Yangtze River areas have a warm and humid climate.

Loess Plateau

This is a traditional place, if you translate it from the Chinese name, it is called "Yellow soil plateau". As you can see in the picture, this region is very yellow... It is located in the middle of Yellow river, so people live in here is yellow, much darker than others. Lots of sand come from here. So Chinese are trying to grow more trees...

3. What have you learned about regions so far? Explain in 5-8 sentences.

I learned about the regions in China. That is much more than Canada, but most of them are dirty... The 8 regions are Tibetan Plateaus,Southwest,Maritime South,Lower Yangzi/South Central China,Northwest,Loess Plateau,North China Plain and the Northeast. This is the real great China.
I'd rather learn about Canada than China, these 8 regions are similar.

When you are done, you have free time!

Climate Continued!

After learning about the topography of this region, we are going to look at the climate and vegetation of this region.

The climate of the Interior Plains is a continental climate. This means the temperature of this region is affected by this region's location in the heart or center of the continent.

Since this region is in the center of the continent, it is far from the ocean. The ocean helps to keep a moderate climate. Without it, this region has a climate of extremes. It has long, hot summers and cold winters.

1a. Translate ocean into Chinese or Korean.
海洋

1b. Which Canadian province is closest to the Pacific Ocean?
British Columbia is the closest to the Pacific Ocean.

1c. Which Canadian provinces is closest to the Atlantic Ocean?
New foundland is the closest to the Atlantic Ocean.
2. Find a picture of the Pacific Ocean you like. Explain why you like it in 3-5 sentences.
This is a Pacific Ocean Image of Oregon Coast. The big rocks are very cool. The shore is thick as you can see. I think this isn't a photograph but a drawn picture. This artist is talented.

3. Find a picture of the Atlantic Ocean you like. Explain why you like it.in 3-5 sentences.
I should say the child is so happy! He is raising his thumb. The water is clean, it is colored in different blue color. Side near the shore is pure,no color;the further side turns deeper and deeper. The mountains are green,or is it an island?

4. Why would the Interior Plains region's climate be affected by the ocean. What does the ocean do for the climate? Explain in 5-8 sentences. Look at your past lesson.

The Interior plains are not affected by the ocean's wet weather. The area is dry.According to the http://projects.cbe.ab.ca/ict/2learn/kdwajda/canada/studentwork/plains.htm,Summers can be between 10ºC and 30ºC. Winters are cold. January can be between -10ºC and -30ºC. I guess it is because of no ocean. Water can make the temperature different, if there's no water, it will be hotter.

5. What continent is the Interior Plains region on? Explain in 3-5 sentences.
It is in North America.

Interior Plains are located in Canada, and Canada is in the North America...So of course it is in North America.

6. Where is the Interior Plains region on this continent? What provinces are in this region?

It is in the middle of this continent.
This region contains Alberta,Manitoba and Saskatchewan.(I guess)

7. What did you learn today?
Geography of Interior Plains. The continents, the climate, and how it is affected by ocean.
I think the region is very big, and very important in North America. It is a big part in this continent.
